I had the trail and summit practically to myself except for two brief encounters. Added lookout trail on Blueberry Mtn to ledge (fogged in) and Bickford Brook Slides side trek (well worth t for scenery). Speckled Mountain sits within the Maine portion of the White Mountain National Forest along the beautiful Route 113. This section of trail is much narrower and clearly sees less traffic. However, it is clear that there is a bit more wildlife here. This is a short but steep climb and connects to Royce trail which will lead you directly back to the parking lot at Brickett Place. Went counter clockwise up Blueberry Ridge and returned via Bickford Brook. It is the easternmost notch through the White Mountains (the next ones to the west being Carter Notch and Pinkham Notch). Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Overall a nice loop with great views and definitely a workout (for me, especially with the distance) which earned the hard rating.
